Cover recordSo, let´s say The Slackers did a cover record - which songs would you want on there? Covers they already did, can´t be included. If you decide to participate, preferably do a whole track list (12-16 songs) and give an explanation for why you chose the songs you did. "Simmer Down" - The Wailers (one of the best ska songs ever, wouldbe nice to hear done by my favourite ska band. Maybe have Alex Dessert join on this one) "Sweet Soul Music" - Arthur conley (maybe in a "do you like ska music" version) "Lovers who wander" - Dion & The Belmonts (would love to hear them do a doo wop song) "One Chord Wonders" - The Adverts (would be a good reggae song) "Julie´s been working for the drug squad" - The Clash (I think this could be a great rocksteady song) "Latin goes ska" - The Skatalites "Good guys don´t wear white" - Minor Threat (Would be a good soul song) "it´s only rock ´n roll/start me up/sympathy for the devil/get off my cloud" - The Rolling Stones (just one of them, i would love to hear Vic sing a stones song though) "Monkey see, Monkey do" - New Swing Sextet - I think Glen could do this one great justice, and there´s gotta be some boogaloo on there. "Ghost town" - The Specials (My all time favourite song. I know its gonna be a hard one to pull of, but if anybody can do it, it would be them. Alternative Specials songs could be: "Too much, to young" or "Blank Expression". The record would need to have a Specials song, after Vic´s Terry Hall fetish in the early days) "First I look at the purse" - The Contours (gotta have some Motown on there - and I can easily see Glen sing the lyrics with a smile on his face" "Green Onions" - Booker T & The MG´s (If you got Motown, you gotta have Staxx) "Got my mind set on you" - George Harrison (there´s gotta be an eighties song on there, would work as a rocksteady song I think) "Everybody´s happy nowadays" - Buzzcocks (could be a good ska song and the lyrics would fit the band)

cover's i'd love to hear
"Soul Island" The Meters. Reggae influenced song from these funk legends begs for a Slack version.
"Junko Partner" Professor Longhair- Later covered by The Clash on the Sandanista disc.
"Positively 4th Street"- Bob Dylan. You can never have too many Dylan covers. Especially if you've done justice to him in the past.
"Protection"- Graham Parker. Paranoia in the late 1970's. Perfect for these times.
"My Little Suede Shoes"- Charlie Parker. Need an instrumental. Pietasters based "Gin & Tonic" off this track.
"Going Down This Road Feeling Bad"- Woody Guthrie. Can't go wrong with Mr. Guthrie.
"Tie Tongue Mopsy"- Lord Kitchener. Why don't ska bands ever cover Kitch?
"Little Criminals"- Randy Newman. They did Mr. Newman justice with "Mama Told Me."
"Crazy Love"- Van Morrison- Glen on vox for this one.
"Sea Cruise"- Frankie Ford- a Slack cover should be done.
"Only the Good Die Young"- Billy Joel. Call me crazy but I always thought this would be a great ska song.
Cover album
I saw a vid of Vic doing "dont think twice, its alright" by bob Dylan and "everyones got a hungry heart" by Springsteen on an acoustic guitar and it sounded awesome. they would be cool as "full band" songs.
cover record
Man if the slack came out with a Sam Cooke cover record it would be great! I have seen the Redlights cover "You Send Me" on YouTube and I was impressed.
Cover Record
The guys are actually planning on releasing a cover album, right?
no no
I think he is just asking in fun, there is no implication here of a real slackers cover album....tho that would be cool...
